On 1st March, the EU delegation to Ivory Coast and the local Ivorian band Magic System jointly launched the “EU Magic Tour”, a partnership to promote harmony and tolerance. The initiative aims to be a call for peace for the coming presidential elections in 2020 and to raise awareness of the new Africa-Europe Alliance.
Alongside twenty artists, Magic System will be performing across the country starting on 12th April. The “EU Magic Tour” will go on until the end of November. The concerts will be accompanied by cultural activities and public debates on youth employment, sustainable and inclusive growth or migration. These topics are as well addressed in the “Africa-Europe Alliance for Sustainable Investment and Jobs”.
The EU ambassador to Ivory Coast, Jobst Von Kirchmann, highlighted: “With this project we want to meet the Ivorians and to give them an image of a European Union that is closer to them, based on the values we represent. With the Magic System Foundation, we found a partner who shares our values.” Salif Traoré, alias A’Salfo, lead singer of Magic System, added that sharing is the first value of an artist and culture the main vehicle to spread messages, highlighting the potential of the project to involve youth and women in current issues.
