This month in Johannesburg, the Africa- Europe High Level Platform on Sustainable Energy Investments (SEI) presented key recommendations for speeding up investments in the energy sector in Africa and stimulating sustainable growth and job creation. The final report will provide policy-makers with guidance on concrete actions to achieve a sustainable energy transition.
The 11 recommendations cover different areas and address both the political framework, as well as specific segments of the energy sector, including distribution, regional integration or clean cooking. The document is the product of intensive discussions in the course of 2019 among the platform’s wide range of African and European stakeholders, including from the sustainable energy sector, public and private sectors, financing institutions, academia and international organisations.
The SEI platform was launched as one of the four sectoral task forces of the Africa-Europe Alliance for Sustainable Investment in 2018. The aim is to promote public and private investments in Africa that will improve access to sustainable energy, boost industrialisation and fight climate change.
