The 6th meeting of the Africa-EU Economic and Social Stakeholders (EESC) network was held on 3 and 4 July 2019 in Brussels. The event brought together representatives of various sectors such as farmers, consumers and cooperatives from both continents to exchange views on investment in Africa.
The main focus of the meeting was on institutional investments mechanisms, to examine the EESC work on investment and trade and to study the impact of investing in the private sector and in social environmental sectors.
The network adopted a final declaration, prioritising five main areas:
1- The role of civil society in Africa-EU relations
2- The EU-Africa investment mechanisms
3- The importance of infrastructure as a factor of progress
4- The impact of investing in the private sector
5- The impact of investing in the social and environmental sectors
The Africa-EU Economic and Social stakeholders’ network
The EESC network was launched in 2014 to contribute and follow up on the Joint Africa-EU Strategy (JAES) from the perspective of civil society. Annual meetings of this network reinforce cooperation among EU and African socio-economic actors, exchange knowledge and best practices and help to consolidate the capacities of civil society and non-state stakeholders.
