On 17-18 October 2017, at the 4th AU-EU High Level Policy Dialogue on Science Technology and Innovation meeting, senior officials of the African and European Union took stock of the results of the first year of the partnership on Food, Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture, launched in 2016. Additionally, a roadmap towards a new partnership focused on Climate Change and Sustainable Energy was adopted at the meeting.
Launched in the wave of the renewed momentum created by the United Nations Paris Agreement and the subsequent COP22 conference, the new partnership aims to contribute to the targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Partnership is built around three main areas of cooperation: climate services, renewable energy and energy efficiency. It offers a long-term framework for Research and Innovation cooperation and aims at pooling national and international resources, building on existing initiatives between the African Union and the EU.
The High Level Policy Dialogue (HLPD) on STI is a long-term, jointly funded and managed partnership on research and innovation by the European Commission, the African Union Commission, EU Member States and African countries.
