The 15th AU-EU Human Rights Dialogue took place on 19 October on the margins of the 65th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Right (ACHPR), in Banjul, the Gambia. The aim of the platform is to ensure convergence of objectives and continuity of actions on human rights, democracy and good governance.
The AU and the EU discussed recent developments in Africa and Europe in the area of human rights, notably progress made by AU organs with a human rights mandate. Both parties reaffirmed the importance of cross-regional cooperation to promote and protect human rights, as well as mutual learning and exchange of best practices based on shared values and mutual interest.
The EU will further contribute to strengthening the African governance architecture and the African Human Rights System, and continues to support the work of the AU in the field of human rights promotion and protection.
