The African Union (AU) – European Union (EU) ministerial meetings take place on an ad hoc basis to monitor the progress achieved between summits, and to advance cooperation between both continents in certain fields.
On 2 July 2017, the AU-EU Agriculture Ministers Conference took place in Rome, Italy, with 'Making Sustainable Agriculture a future for youth in Africa' as its central theme. The conference focused on four broad areas:
1) Responsible investments
2) Research, innovation and ICT
3) Sustainable water management
4) Climate smart agriculture and reducing food loss and waste.
Its conclusions fed into the discussions at the 5th Africa-EU summit on 28-29 November 2017, which also had youth as its central theme.
