The African Union (AU) – European Union (EU) ministerial meetings take place on an ad hoc basis to monitor the progress achieved between summits, and to advance cooperation between both continents in certain fields.
From 21-22 January 2019, Ministers of Foreign Affairs from EU and African Union (AU) countries met in Brussels to take stock of the outcome of the 5th AU-EU Summit 2017.
They adopted a joint communiqué focused on three main themes:
1) political aspects: peace, security and governance
2) economic aspects: trade, investment, and economic integration
3) multilateralism: strengthening cooperation in support of a rules-based global order
