Presentation of the EIP in New York on 20 September

Friday, 08 September, 2017

The External Investment Plan (EIP) – a key element of Europe's effort to mobilise the resources needed to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals – will be presented at the event 'The EU External Investment Plan (EIP) - Mobilising EUR 44 billion for the Global Goals', which will take place at the United Nations headquarters in New York on 20 September 2017.

Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals will require massive investments and unprecedented action by development actors until 2030. At this high-level event, keynote speakers including EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, EU Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica, UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner, and European Investment Bank (EIB) President Werner Hoyer will highlight the operating principles of the EIP with the goal of engaging partners at the highest level for the Plan’s implementation phase, which will kick-off in October 2017.

The event will also aim at capturing partners' and the private sector's feedback on the initiative and at identifying possible future partnerships and joint actions amongst the participating stakeholders, not only in terms of investment but also more broadly in terms of sectoral dialogue, capacity building and technical assistance.

The EIP is a priority for the European Union, as a new and innovative way of mobilising private resources for development. The Plan offers a unique combination of technical assistance, policy dialogue and financing with the aim of promoting sustainable and inclusive development and creating more and better jobs in Africa and the EU neighbourhood. In particular, it leverages financing from the private sector by establishing a guarantee that reduces risk for private investment and absorbs potential losses incurred by financiers and investors.

If you would like to attend the event, you can register here until September 14. Be aware that additional security measures will be in place at the UN that week, so please specify whether you will have a UN pass already; non-UN pass holders will be escorted in.
