The African Statistical System has currently made important progress in harmonising efforts to provide reliable and comparable high-quality data at continental level.
- January 2018: The Host Agreement for the African Union Institute for Statistics (STATAFRIC) has been signed at the margins of the 30th AU Summit.
- February 2018: The African Union Statistics Division, the Regional Economic Communities and EUROSTAT conducted the 2nd Consultative Meeting on the EU-funded Pan African Statistics Programme (PAS), with the aim to review progress in implementation in line with the objectives of the 'Strategy for Harmonisation of Statistics in Africa (SHaSA)' and the African Charter on Statistics
- November 2017: The 2017 edition of the African Statistical Yearbook presents a time series showing how African countries performed on several economic and social indicators over the period 2008 to 2016.
Following the AU-EU Summit in Abidjan in November 2017, the EU reiterates its commitment to continue working closely with its African partners in producing high-quality and harmonised statistics at continental level.
