This annual report provides an overview of the main activities, achievements and challenges of the key instrument of the European Union to support the African Union's and African Regional Economic Communities' efforts in the area of peace and security in 2015.
As in previous years, in 2015 the largest share of APF funds was allocated to African-led Peace Support Operations. The APF also facilitated development through a long-term financial commitment aimed at supporting the full operationalization of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA) and provided our African partners with an immediately available and reliable source of funding for the first steps of actions aimed at preventing, managing and resolving crises (Early Response Mechanism).
Since its creation, the African Peace Facility has contributed significantly to enhanced dialogue and cooperation between the European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU) in peace and security; this is a priority area under the Africa – EU partnership established in Lisbon in 2007, as confirmed by the Roadmap adopted by the 4th EU-Africa Summit in Brussels in April 2014.
