Date & Venue:
4-5 October. Yaoundé, Cameroon.
How the event went:
The second version of Europe-Africa Trade Unions Summit will be held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, in early October. The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC), International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and the ITUC-Africa organise this meeting which will gather representatives from national trade unions from both continents.
The Europe-Africa Trade Unions Summit will assess achievements since the last Summit held in Lisbon in 2007. A final declaration will be submitted to the European and African Heads of States which contains concrete demands and proposals on decent work creation (including green jobs), strengthening social protection, vocational training and social dialogue.
the promotion of decent work conditions are fundamental concerns for European and African populations. Both continents have been affected by the economic downturn and they need to conjointly address strategies in order to boost economic growth, investment and create, protect and promote decent jobs. The Joint Africa-EU Strategy's (JAES) 7th partnership aims to provide holistic responses to the issues of Migration, Mobility and Employment in the interest of both partners, with the particular objectives to create more and better jobs for Africa and to better manage migration flows in full coherence with the ILO framework on migration.
Representatives from national, regional and international trade unions from both continents.Representatives from national governments, the European Union and the African Union.
